Marcus teaches a variety of techniques in all styles of acoustic and electric guitar, bass, piano, music theory, ear training, rhythm, harmony, song writing, improvisation, and performance skills based on his Berklee education. His teaching style accommodates each individual student to his or her goals and skill level. He believes that, “the student’s maturity in theory is very important for understanding the mental aspects of music; just as important as the physical development through repetition of the hands and arm muscles.” Building a versatile knowledge of chords, scales, popular solos, phrasing, melodies, and improvising are all part of the building blocks that are emphasized in lessons while still maintaining a level of fun and excitement for the student. Marcus currently is earning his Masters of Music Degree in Jazz Composition at Depaul University in Chicago, IL under the tutelege of professors Bob Palmieri, Tom Matta, and Dr. Robert Lark.

New materials will be provided on an on-going basis and their meaning and importance will be effectively explained as the student progresses. Cutting-edge musical technology and music software is also used in lessons to help accelerate learning. The use of videotaping, for example, provides the student with a visual and auditory mirror to their musical progress, allowing them to understand their strengths and weaknesses. The goal of lessons is not only to provide consistent instruction and improvements each week through a regimented practice schedule, but to also allow for a positive learning environment in which students feel at ease to develop a love and understanding of music and to be provided with the necessary skills to apply their musical knowledge to the outside world. This is especially true for students seeking experience in musical performance. Marcus relies on his confident instruction in working together with his students to develop helpful and easy-to-follow lessons plans and by forming short-term and long-term musical goals. Acoustic and electric guitar, bass, and piano lessons are available. Weekly private lessons can range from 30 to 120-minute sessions based on the student’s preference and can be taught in the student’s home or a private teaching studio equipped with recording studio, music library, instruments and amplifiers. Group lessons are also available. All ages and skill levels are welcome!
